‘My Hero’ dolls designed by Rancho Bernardo couple connect military parents and children
When Matt Miller deployed with the Navy in January 2020, he and his wife, Jaclyn, wanted a way for him to bond with their newborn son. Their solution — using recordable books — was the spark for an idea that has turned into a business with customizable dolls that contain a parent’s voice reading a story to their child. Last year, the Rancho Bernardo couple launched their “My Hero” line of plush dolls. With optional features such as skin tone, hair color, glasses, mustache, freckles and appropriate military branch uniform, the dolls can be ordered to look like the parent. Each doll also contains a recorder so the child can hear their parent’s pre-recorded voice as they look at the pages of any storybook.
