My HERO
The Fund
We are committed to military families and will donate a portion of sales from our MY HERO Collection to provide prescription glasses for military children not currently covered by TRICARE. This mission is personal to us because our youngest son, Hayden, requires frequent prescription changes due to his correctable vision issues. We even incorporated his glasses into our logo!
Giving back is a core value for us. 5% of all MY HERO Collection sales will support military children in need of prescription glasses not covered by TRICARE. By collaborating with the Support the Enlisted Project, we aim to alleviate this financial burden, a cause close to our hearts. Our goal is to ease this expense for other military families.
We launched our first book, Benny Backwards, and solidified our trademarks by donating all profits to support Matt’s friend from the Theodore Roosevelt, whose son Cannon is currently battling stage four cancer. All proceeds from Benny Backwards will be given to Cannon’s family until he is healed. More than our desire to become entrepreneurs, we are driven by our mission to help and make other families' lives easier.
We look forward to how the MY HERO brand will allow us to make a meaningful impact on their lives. From the moment we founded UMBO, we wanted to use our platform to make a positive impact. We invite you to join us in our mission by purchasing a copy of Benny Backwards below and supporting our efforts to help military families.Thank you for your support.Matt & Jaclyn

Cannon Palvus
IT ALL STARTED WITH A BOOK
After years at sea, Matt had just finished his sea duty when Mason, their oldest son, was learning to dress himself. He always put his clothes on backward, earning the nickname “Backwards Man.” Matt and Mason would make up silly stories together, and one of Matt’s long-time goals was to write a children’s book. With a little more time at home, Matt finally put pen to paper and wrote Benny Backwards, a whimsical tale about a guy who does everything in reverse. He eats breakfast for dinner and dinner for breakfast. His house has doors where windows should be and windows where doors should be.
After finishing the book, Matt asked himself a simple question: Why would anyone read this book? Around the same time, a close friend from the USS Theodore Roosevelt shared heartbreaking news that his three-year-old son, Cannon, had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. As parents of two young boys, Matt and Jaclyn couldn’t imagine the pain their friend’s family was going through. That moment changed everything.
Matt decided to donate Benny Backwards to help Cannon’s family. He published the book on Amazon KDP and raised funds for Cannon’s fight. At the same time, the book received an overwhelming amount of praise and encouragement. Inspired, Matt wrote My Daddy, My SWO, followed by the mommy version, My Mommy, My SWO, and an entire series of books that ignited a spark of creativity and ultimately led to MY HERO.
That first book didn’t just launch a series, it laid the foundation for the MY HERO Project. From the beginning, we knew we wanted to make a difference. Corporate gift-giving became one of the ways we could turn our mission into a reality.
