This past Veterans Day weekend was unforgettable for Jaclyn and me. For the first time, we took our My Hero Mommy and Daddy Dolls out into the heart of San Diego to share their story. Being home for the weekend from Department Head School in Newport, Rhode Island, made it even more special. We finally got to experience firsthand what it’s like to see people connect with our dolls and the mission behind them.
We set up our brand-new tent at Fleet Week at Bravo Pier and were overwhelmed by the positive feedback from everyone who stopped by. Families, veterans, and even curious passersby were drawn to the story of how our dolls help military families stay connected, no matter the distance. The conversations we had that day reminded us why we started MY HERO in the first place.
But the highlight of the weekend came when we decided to stop by the Flagship Cruises and Events Gift Shop on a whim. Jaclyn and I walked in, introduced ourselves, and shared a little about the dolls with an employee. We left feeling hopeful but unsure of what might happen next.
To our surprise and excitement, Gisselle, the manager, called us back later that day! The employee had passed along the word, and Gisselle loved the idea. She wanted to bring the dolls into the shop immediately. Just like that, our Sailor, Coast Guard, and Marine Dolls found their way into one of San Diego’s busiest tourist destinations.
Having our dolls available at Flagship Cruises is a huge step for us. With so many visitors passing through their shop every day, it’s the perfect opportunity to share the MY HERO story with even more families.
