MY HERO
My Daddy, My SWO
"Every morning, right before the birds start chirping and the sun pops up over the horizon, my DADDY starts hIS day. He’s not just any DADDY; he’s a Surface Warfare Officer, and he’s my hero."
My DADDY, My SWO by Matthew E. Miller, is a heartfelt tribute to the relationship between the men and women who serve as Surface Warfare Officers in the United States Navy, their children, and the sacrifices these families make. This beautifully illustrated book, from illustrator Olena Taranenko, offers a glimpse into the lives and realities of these families. The story is perfect for helping children understand and appreciate the important role their parents play.
Told through the eyes of a child, My DADDY, My SWO brings to life the adventures, pride, sacrifices, and challenges that SWOs face every day. It's a wonderful way for families to connect and share in the pride of service

Matthew E. Miller is a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy. Originally from Frankfort, Kentucky, Matt now calls San Diego, California home. His life revolves around his family, including his wife Jaclyn, an audiologist for active duty members, their two boys, Mason and Hayden, and their dog, Olivia.
Inspired by his son Mason, Matt wrote his first book, "Benny Backwards," in 2024. This success led to more writing, including "My Daddy, My SWO," explaining his role to his children. Encouraged by Jaclyn, Matt expanded into the "My Mommy, My Daddy" series, covering all military branches.
While working on these books, Matt and Jaclyn created the MY HERO project, inspired by Matt's 2020 deployment on the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT when Mason was only one-month-old. Their company, UMBO, aims to foster connections and help military families bridge geographical gaps despite their demanding lifestyles.
